Abstract
Cultural villages face challenges that go beyond facilities and promotion. Changes in local livelihoods, reduced social time, and difficulties in passing cultural practices to younger generations can also affect destination recovery. These conditions are visible in Sindang Barang Cultural Village, Pasir Eurih Village, Bogor Regency, which retains Pajajaran-related historical assets, the Seren Taun tradition, Sundanese architecture, arts, and local footwear craftsmanship. This study examines how facilities, livelihood change, community control, cultural transmission, and governance influence the prospects for destination rejuvenation. An exploratory qualitative case study was employed. Primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four informants representing tourism-village management, neighbourhood leadership, footwear artisanship, and cultural authority. The interview findings were compared with observation, institutional records, official statistics, and relevant literature on the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC), regenerative tourism, and community resilience. The findings indicate that Sindang Barang cannot yet be assigned to a definitive TALC stage because consistent longitudinal visitor data are unavailable. Nevertheless, several signs of stagnation risk are evident, including incomplete facility readiness, limited visitor records, weak dedicated funding, shrinking agricultural land, production waste, and declining social participation. Footwear production supports household income, while long working hours and market dependence can reduce time for collective activities. The study argues that rejuvenation should connect place quality, local livelihoods, community control, and cultural continuity rather than improving only one of these dimensions.
